KNEAD Hospitality + Design is bringing all of the best elements of France together in one space at Bistro Du Jour. Bistro Du Jour will mark KNEAD Hospitality + Design’s third waterfront venue at the Wharf, making them the only restaurant group with more than three locations at the prime destination. The approachable all day Parisian bistro’s menu highlights Mah-Ze-Dahr Bakery’s croissants, brioche donuts, cheesecake and draft lattes, with breakfast (quiche, belgian waffles), lunch (croque madame, tuna nicoise), and dinner (shepherd’s pie, coq au vin) throughout the day.

KNEAD Hospitality + Design is excited to invite guests to relax and unwind on their conditioned and enclosed outdoor patio with waterfront views that caters to an all day crowd welcoming brunch lovers, remote workers, and late night diners.

With breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Bistro Du Jour will have an all day menu that caters to the vast crowds flocking to the Wharf. In the morning breakfast goers can stop in for a quick fresh pastry and La Columbe coffee, or sit down and indulge in Ma-Ze-Dahr’s award winning sweet delicacies like cream scones, turkey & gruyere croissants, brioche donuts, and cinnamon rolls. For lunch and dinner, the menu will transition to traditional French classics like Croque Madame, Oeufs Sur La Plat (Mornay sauce, sauteed button mushroom), Salade Nicoise (Confit tuna, potatoes, haricot verte, tomatoes, olive, Dijon vinaigrette), and Confit De Carnard (French green lentils, red wine shallots).

Dalin Kulla, KNEAD Hospitality + Design’s Beverage Director, has created a focused cocktail program with six carefully curated cocktails. An extensive bubbly list will be available as well as L’Aperitif, beer and wine.

KNEAD Hospitality + Design in collaboration with //3877 are bringing a touch of Paris to D.C.’s hottest waterfront neighborhood, The Wharf. Bistro Du Jour–the latest of many successful restaurant collaborations between the two firms–adds a contemporary twist to the archetypal Parisian bistro, blending tradition with touches of French warmth.

Two-thirds of the restaurant’s seating is housed on the building’s exterior in a newly-constructed four-season patio enclosure, a transitional structure that maximizes waterfront views, capacity, and flexibility. During warmer days, the structure opens to the breeze, while throughout the colder months, the windows roll down for a fully-enclosed space. Sourced directly from France, custom-made banquettes cater to the guests’ authentic dining experience, while the built-in planters and glowing string lights add additional ambiance and texture to the building’s exterior.

The restaurant interiors are warm and fresh, sporting soft hues of greens, pinks and creams. The lighting scheme continues the transitional trend, complementing natural light during the day with cool, bright lights, and creates a dim, moody atmosphere at night. Hexagonal tiles pattern the floor with greens, pinks, creams and black as a modern reference to classic Parisian mosaics. Two tone walls add visual interest to the perimeter of the space, finished with a rich textured cream plaster on the top and a warm caramel stain pine beadboard on the lower half. The main dining room ceiling drops low, intentionally free of pendants and adornments, clad in antique tin tiles painted to match the restaurant’s blush tones.

A host stand made of rich reclaimed pine with a belgian bluestone top stands off to the side of the entrance. Just beyond, a circular table with a dramatic floral display creates a stunning focal point in the room. Green velvet-tufted banquettes custom-made by CIX Direct wrap the perimeter of the main dining room, alongside custom marble and brass tables. Traditional bentwood bistro chairs provide adjacent seating. Inspired by the etchings of French baroque artist Claude Lorrain, the room’s focal wall portrays a French pastoral scene etched into an antique mirror. Additional drawings and landscape paintings in muted and sepia tones decorate the space. Low sheer curtains line the windows, providing a sense of filtered privacy for diners.

The rear of the restaurant houses the daytime counter, offering coffee, pastries, wine, champagne and spirits. Decorative counters made from a marble-look silestone add durability to the traditional aesthetic. Below the counters, pine panels with recessed molding match the beadboard of the main dining room, weaving a common thread throughout the space. The countertop’s feature display is a custom-created fully-insulated champagne farmhouse sink, furthering the space’s charm. The bar glassware display is created from a single panel of antiqued brass to showcase the spirit offerings and serve as decorative storage. The back wall features a pink glossy tile, reflecting a warm blush glow throughout the space, complemented by accents of brass throughout.

Bistro Du Jour carefully balances modernity with tradition, bringing a Parisian neighborhood feel to the restaurant-goers on the D.C. waterfront.”
