This multi-colored VW has a lot of miles on it but still looks pretty sharp.
This Alfa Romeo, although a '91, looks a lot like the one Dustin Hoffman drove in "The Graduate"
This and another former State Police Harley Davidson could be used for parts, according to the Office for General Services which plans to auction them off.
ALBANY — They may not be in cherry condition but what some might call collectible vehicles are up for sale during the next state Office of General Services surplus auction on Tuesday.
The agency is selling off a multi-colored 1974 Volkswagen convertible bug, and a 1991 Alfa Romeo Spyder convertible like the one Dustin Hoffman drove in “The Graduate.” (Yes the movie was released in 1967 but this 1990s-era Alfa looks almost identical to the earlier model).
Also up for auction: two non-rideable Harley-Davidsons and 365 slabs of marble.
Actually, neither the VW or Alfa would be recommended as daily drivers: the Beetle has 268,890 miles and a salvage title, meaning it was rebuilt. It was seized by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
The Alfa also has a salvage title and the true mileage is unknown.
The two Harleys were the first cycles State Police used in 1997 when they re-instituted their motorcycle unit.
There will, of course, be the usual selection of driveable vehicles as well as highway equipment and other surplus items at the auction which will start at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 19 at the Harriman State Office Building Campus.
The items can be inspected the morning of the auction and one can register here at Perry Auctions website.
