KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 11): US actress Sandra Bullock’s 19-acre (7.69-hectare) compound in San Diego, California has been listed for sale at US$6 million (RM28.03 million), followed by Elvis Presley’s honeymoon home dubbed “House of Tomorrow” in Palm Springs at US$5.65 million, according to a press statement on Monday (Oct 10).

Bullock’s 19-acre compound, which the actress purchased for US$2.75 million in 2009, comprises an estimated 6,000 sq ft detached house and guesthouse, hundreds of olive, avocado, and citrus trees, gardens and a walk-in chicken coop.

The statement added that the house has four bedrooms, with its own en-suite bathroom and private entrance from the home’s several verandas. The primary suite has a fireplace, lounge, jetted tub, steam shower, and private access to the pool. The house was built in 1990, and is completely renovated with rustic touches but a contemporary aesthetic.

The house comes with high-beam ceilings, crisp white walls, and French doors. The kitchen features soapstone counters, an Italian marble backsplash with an inlaid mosaic and a few appliances. The house also has a library that includes the home’s nine fireplaces and lighted shelving.

Besides the heated saltwater pool, the compound also has an outdoor entertainment zone with a gas outdoor fireplace, a big-screen TV, and a pool room. The three-bedroom, two-bath guesthouse includes a fireplace, gazebo, and spa. The compound is gated with security cameras and has a smart home system, while other features include solar panels and an electric car charging station.

“The Valley Center, [a] rural community north of San Diego, [is] known for its Memorial Day Stampede Rodeo and Independence Day Western Days Festival. Other options for entertainment include the Hellhole Canyon Preserve, which offers 13.5 miles of hiking trails, and the Harrah’s Resort Southern California Casino,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, House of Tomorrow appeared in the Look magazine in 1962 and was leased by Elvis Presley as a wedding location and honeymoon house in 1967.

With a built-up of 4,695 sq ft with four bedrooms and five bathrooms, the house has a curvilinear floor plan and other features such as an indoor kitchen grill, central vacuuming system, and wall-mounted radios.

It also comes with a “centre-of-the-room fireplace with a chimney suspended from the ceiling, a sunken entertainment area, and walls of glass with mountain views”. The outdoor space features a private garden with palms and rock accents, as well as a partly shaded swimming pool and lawn. The statement added that the house had undergone a two-year renovation.

The house was constructed by the Alexander Construction Company in the late 1950s and early '60s, and was designed by architect William Krisel.
