Give your getting-ready zone a much needed makeover.
January is the perfect opportunity to have a big clear-out and reorganise your home – so now’s the time to give your dressing table some much-needed attention.
We bet your room's getting-ready area looks more like a job for Marie Kondo than a glamorous, feminine sanctuary.
It's true that makeup can be tough to keep tidy– all those lipliners, lipsticks and individual eyeshadows rolling around can quickly create a cluttered feeling. It can also have you reaching for those same old cosmetics every day as a messy space makes it difficult to see what you really have to work with – like when you keep using the same old pan because you can't bear to sort your kitchen cupboard.
Fortunately, there are plenty of dressing table organisers out there to keep your stash more manageable. A few perspex organisers and a jewellery box or two can work wonders for turning a tangled pile of necklaces and haphazard makeup bag into a Pinterest-perfect space. Here's our pick of organisers to sort your stuff.
Instead of hiding your expensive makeup away in a drawer, show it off – your Chanel lipsticks deserve pride of place on your tabletop. There are lots of clear perspex makeover organisers with dedicated sections for lipsticks, palettes and tubs that’ll keep things orderly. Having a clear view of your makeup will help when you’re searching for different cosmetics, too. If you invest in several organisers, you can mix-and-match to get a solution that'll work seamlessly and can be added to if your collection grows.
These brushes are going on your face, so keep them hygienic and don’t thrust them into the depths of your cosmetics bag. A decent set can run into the £100s and can look very stylish, so show them off properly.
A pen pot or similar dressing table organiser will keep these tools neat and upright so you can quickly see what you need. There are so many different styles, so if you don't fancy clear glass or perspex, it should still be easy to find one to match your space. You can also use this space to keep your hair tools to hand, if you don't keep them in the bathroom.
We’ve all felt the pain of spending time rifling through an unorganised jewellery box to find our favourite necklace is tangled up in knots. To make things easier, display your pieces in a glass cabinet so you can see them at first glance.
If you’ve got a large collection of jewellery, invest in a few different organisers. Hang necklaces and bracelets on a jewellery tree and pop rings on a ring holder. A nifty box or dish is a great place to store your earrings. For those with a small collection, an organiser with separate compartments will work to keep everything neat and tidy.
Hair accessories, kirby grips, rings and keys need a place to live, but don’t typically sit within a jewellery box. A solution? Keep them in a trinket tray. These are good if you’ve got a ring or some earrings that you wear every day but don’t like to sleep while wearing – instead of storing them away every evening, you can just pop them in the dish to keep them to hand in the morning.
If you remove your makeup at your dressing table or use it for your skincare routine, you’ll also need a place to store makeup remover pads, earbuds and other basics. Swap the standard ugly packaging for a pretty glass jar instead – it will give your table a much more polished finish. Using several jars of different heights is a good dressing table idea to add additional interest.
