The singer-songwriter reveals her worst interior design trend of all time.
As part of our brand new interview series, My Happy Home, we sit down with Paloma Faith to find out about her favourite interiors — and what tops her list as the worst decor trend of all time.
The 40-year-old English singer, songwriter and actress first rose to fame with her debut 2009 album, 'Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful?' Best known for her retro and eccentric style, Paloma has gone on to win numerous award nominations, sell 10 million records, and land a double platinum certification in the UK.
Most recently, Paloma launched her first interiors brand, Paloma Home. Inspired by the renovation of her London townhouse, the debut line features affordable accessories that tap into the romantic noirs of acclaimed director Wong Kar-wai.
Paloma currently resides in London with her partner, Leyman Lahcine, and their two young children.
PF: My work means I'm often away travelling, so anytime I spend with my kids and partner at home is so special! As a Cancerian, I'm a nester — home is everything to me.
PF: I dress a room as I dress myself. I often start with one thing. With any outfit you might start with a pair of shoes, so with a room you could use a chair or cushion. A fearlessness of colour is important. You need to dress a room – acknowledging the bricks and mortar of the space too.
Growing up we didn't always have a lot of money, but my mum did always prioritise investing in new cushion covers — it's a simple way to make things feel brand new. That's what I wanted to offer with Paloma Home. It's the small pieces that make a room special.
PF: I'm totally addicted to antique markets, thrift stores when travelling around America, and eBay of course. I am actually secretly excited to shop at Paloma Home too. I have an urge to re-wallpaper a couple of rooms.
PF: I'd absolutely love to snoop around the set of a Wong Kar-wai film. His work inspired many of the prints in the Paloma Home Range. I spent years trying to source the wallpaper from one of his films, so I had to recreate it. It's the Oriental Leaves Wallpaper and I can't wait to cover my walls with it!
PF: Letters from my partner, mother and best friends. They are mementos that I'd never be able to part with.
PF: I'm a bit of a workaholic. I'd love to say relaxing with a good book, but I spend most evenings scouring Pinterest or dreaming up my next creative project.
PF: As a mother of two young babies it's so important for me that they can play and enjoy being outside. Lockdown has heightened everyone's appreciation of the outdoors – it provides a sense of freedom that I feel we've all craved!
PF: Probably my wardrobe room — it's what I call the heart of the house. It's a small space but it has tons of storage with all my costumes and wigs. It's an escape!
PF: Slightly controversial, but Scandinavian minimalism. I grew up with a mum who loved the clean 60s minimalist aesthetic (all white and modern). My style is entirely the opposite, which I think is my decadent (and slightly cluttered) rebellion!
PF: I think I would choose a house from Inigo (The Modern House's new platform). I would love to do another renovation and go even bigger on maximalism! I'm not a massive spender so I think I would go vintage and head to eBay hunting for some colourful pieces.
