A worker from Rinaldi Tile and Marble grouts a new section of the massive Watsonville Brilliante mosaic that brings color, design and flair to the Civic Center Parking Structure in Watsonville. Watsonville Brilliante is the brainchild of artist Kathleen Crocetti and when finished will be comprised of 12,500 square feet of mosaics created primarily by high school students. The creation of the art occurs at Muzzio Mosaic Arts Center, where youth come free of charge to create art while hanging out with friends, learning job skills and gaining community service hours. Partners and supporters of the project include Rinaldi Tile and Marble, Fireclay Tile, Laticrete, Community Foundation Santa Cruz County, Arts Council Santa Cruz County, Pajaro Valley Arts and the Pajaro Valley Unified School District. Elements of Watsonville Brilliante include tributes to the diversity of people who have made the Watsonville area their home. The larger panels of the mural are based on drawings by Watsonville High School graduate Juan Fuentes, including the Asian flower grower in this photograph. (Shmuel Thaler – Santa Cruz Sentinel)
